June Part 2

More things from June

Makayla cooking up some no-bake cookies. The girls love making treats after church on Sundays.

And sometimes Tarl stops by for a visit when he's driving around on our beat.

For FHE Tarl and a fun idea to make a balloon launcher. We'd boughten the tubing a few days earlier and then he told me his plan/design so I whipped this sucker up (it took me a little bit). I'm pretty darn proud of it actually. 

Tarl and I held it and the kids took turns shooting them across the yard. 

We figured our most successful place was to stand on the side of the house and shoot it into the backyard. With about 20 balloons left the kids finally decided they were strong enough to do it themselves and they shot them at us! We were all pretty well wet by the end.

 

We finally made it to Lava Hot Springs. Since living in Idaho we've heard a lot about it but haven't made it there yet so we planned a big Duffin trip.

The kids LOVED it. We ended up going on a cloudy (slightly rainy) day so there weren't any crowds. Little Tyce guy went up the stairs a billion times to do the green and red slides and the girls really liked the yellow and white ones. The kiddie area was perfect. This is Summer, Tyce and Ruthie.

Afterwards we grabbed some dinner at a little local burger joint (I really liked it). Dad & Jan have been here before I think. They stuck around in Lava and we all headed back to Poky.

The girls slept over at my house that night so the next day the kids played and we got to visit. Mark brought up a bunch of bottles for us to do a little Mentos in Soda experiment.

They each got to take a turn dropping them in.

And the sprays were pretty impressive!

Just for interesting sake. So this is the aftermath of his lost teeth. They're growing in, but lovely and crooked thanks to my children's ultra small mouths.

FHE was family date to Pizza Hut and visiting on the porch.

This was our first official 'lighting of the tiki torches' this year. 

We really enjoy it!

Another FHE of teaching the kids about tithing and savings. AND aunt Heather started a reading incentive for the kids. If they read the allotted amount and check in weekly they get paid. 

Kaly's new bike. I love that she picked out a big tough bike but she's wearing her pretty bow shoes. :)

They even let her pick her own colors. 

Tarl scared the children the other night after a scary movie. He put a speaker in their closet and remotely turned on creepy noises. Then he got this skeleton out and was holding it near the bedroom door so when they ran out to tell us about it they'd see this guy instead. It sorta kinda worked.

This was the kids revenge. They dressed up the skeleton and left it on our bed for us to find.

This is how we've been doing summer jobs around here. Every night I put their sticky notes in the kitchen and they get them done in the morning when they wake up. A few times they've even wanted a head start so they've peaked before and gotten them done at night (ok by me!!). It's been nice because I can make it specific to how the house was left the night before (I'm never sure when we're going to use the dishwasher or need a load of laundry done) and it's been keeping us all motivated. 

The girls did a 2 day 4H camp on cooking. They learned new recipes, helped create them in the kitchen, learned how to read food labels and more. I think we'll do this one again next year.

The kids built some pretty amazing things with legos. At one point they all worked together to build a huge house and city and they played pretend with it for days. It was so fun to watch.

Tyce and Makayla did swim lessons with the city. They're in level 2 and 3. Everyone LOVES swim lessons. 

Utah Trip #2

Our first trip to Utah this summer (end of May) was to go to the Farmer family reunion. 

Our second trip was a week later (first week in June) so I could take my girls to the Granddaughters of Brigham Young annual luncheon. 

Temple Stop #1

On our way down we stopped at the Brigham City Temple. We talked about what we do in the temples and I asked them what they knew and could tell me. We also talked about the significance of the layout inside. 

After the temple trip we stopped at a grocery store next door to grab a snack.

Kaly got donut holes (it was national donut day) and they were delicious!

Temple Stop #2

We also went to the Bountiful Temple. It was fun to see the city below. We also noted this was where Aunt Shantae & Uncle Chad were married. 

The luncheon is held at the Lion House. You have to be 8 and older to be invited. Girls 8-11 get to participate in games, tours of the house and a taffy pull so I especially wanted to go this year because Kaly is 11 and Makayla is 8. 

Every room inside is filled with tables to accommodate as many as possible who would like to come. You have to be blood relatives to be invited so for example Tyce's wife wouldn't be invited but his daughters would be.
